What Does Being Healthy Mean To You?

Is it going on a strict diet of salads and grilled chicken? Is it sweating out a half gallon of fluids at the gym? Everyone has an idea of what healthy is and everyone else is willing to tell you that their idea of it is the right one.
For me, it's a combination of several things. Diet and exercise are definitely in the equation but over the last two and a half years I have learned that there is so much more to it than just diet and exercise. Our external environment, as well as heredity, play a huge part in how healthy or unhealthy we are.
Heredity Factors
My family history includes heart disease on one side, cancer on the other, and prominent hearing loss on both sides. Now hearing loss won't kill me like heart disease and cancer but any or all three will significantly reduce my quality of life. I want to postpone any hereditary issues as long as possible and maybe, just maybe, through taking very good care of myself I can avoid some of them.
To manage my hearing loss, I have hearing aids and I have had surgery on both of my ears. To try to avoid heart disease and cancer I don't drink or smoke, I exercise when I can, I try to eat as healthy as I can, I get all the necessary screenings, and I pay attention to what I allow in my environment.
External Factors
I have learned to read labels and research what kind of toxic chemicals may be hiding in items that are commonly used everyday in many households. Things like cleaning supplies, personal care products, make-up, air fresheners, and packaged foods all have hidden dangers. If you take the time to look up the names and definitions of some of those long words in the ingredients list of common products you will be absolutely amazed and then you'll get angry that those things are allowed to be sold to consumers!
Everything you put on and into your body has the potential to contain harmful toxins that enter your blood stream and can damage your organs, leading to disease. Our bodies can process out some of these toxins in small amounts but when you consider the sheer number of toxin laden products we use on a daily basis it is easy to see how our body's filtering system can easily become compromised as these things build up in a process called bioaccumulation.
"Bioaccumulation is the accumulation of substances, such as pesticides, or other chemicals in an organism. Bioaccumulation occurs when an organism absorbs a substance at a rate faster than that at which the substance is lost by catabolism and excretion." -credit Wikipedia
Once I learned about the dangers of bioaccumulation and the toxins commonly found in everyday items I started being more careful. Now I buy all of my household products from Young Living because I know that their standard of quality is unmatched. All their products are toxin free and plant based and the Seed to Seal guarantee ensures that I am getting only the safest, healthiest products for my family.
